Why We Go...

So I am trying to answer the question of Why are We Doing This?

Ever since I started riding bikes, I really wanted to go across America. I started hearing a lot of cyclists say they did it and loved it. I also heard others saying "I wish I did that when I was younger. Now I am too old or too busy." I decided I did not want to have that kind of excuse. Right now my wife and I are at a perfect stage in life to go on a journey such as this. And I cannot forget, my wife has been TREMENDOUS in supporting my dream and taking that leap to COME ALONG for the ride! Wow, God has given me a GREAT lady. It's amazing how the LORD sets up the people in our lives. :)

We also go for Adventure. We want to do something that is difficult, that is not normal, that pushes our bodies and reminds us of the things our flesh is capable of doing. Sometimes, we get stuck with saying things like "I don't know how they do that. They must have received some extra talent or gift." Most of the time, this statement is NOT true. It is a combination of hard training and dedication. We do not want to LIMIT our bodies from doing something difficult for the sake of the lack of time or the hard work it takes to get to that place.

Amen!

Our Route and Timeline

Route:

Here is a rough overview of where we will be going. We are using Bike the US for MS routes as well as Adventure Cycling routes.

NERD TIME:

According to my calculations, we will be riding 2.66/20.06 = 13.3% of the world's circumferential distance at 36.75 degrees North of the Equator.

Let's Check my math:

The distance around the Earth is approximately 17,400 nautical miles at 37 degrees North.
Our trip is approximately 3,785 miles.
3785/17400 = 21.8%

Kind of off, but it's all approximation! Still cool to think about (for me anyway :)
